26th February 2012 Hi everyone,
Back on Penang Island after a long weekend down in Kuala Kangsar
which is about
a 1hr 30min drive south of Penang. The track was new and next to a river which ran through the Kuala Kangsar town. The turn out of people who came to see the racing was huge even though some rain came through later in the day which did not stop the racing or the people from turning up to see the close racing all day.
Moto one:
Got an okay start and was in 5th place, there was lots of banging
handle bars
because of a packed class of 20 riders on the start line. After a few corners I was able to get up into 3rd place. 1st and 2nd place were racing each other which made it hard for me to try and make a pass into 2nd place or even into the lead.
I stayed on the back wheel of the two riders for about 5 laps and
then the race
pace of the two riders were starting to slow up and make some mistakes so I took advantage of it and made a pass into 2nd and then a pass into the lead.
After I got into the lead I knew I had to ride fast and smooth to
get some gap
on the riders behind me to help make the race much easy on myself. My KTM 250sxf was working great and the bike seem to work much better on this track than last month.
With only 2 laps to go I had a 4sec lead over the 2nd place rider
from Thailand,
2laps later I took the win in moto one!
Moto two:
10mins before the race starts the track got a good down pour of
rain, so I made
a few changes to my bike and got my Oakley goggles ready with about 20 tear offs for all the mud. Off I went, great jump off the start and my KTM hooked up all the way to the first turn getting me the hole shot (1st place) with no one to roost mud all over me but for a change it was me roosting everyone behind me.
I rode very safe and tight as the track was very wet in some places
and it showed
with many riders fighting the track sliding all over the place. I had the two Thailand riders and one Australian rider behind me, I just rode smart and smooth the whole 25min all the way to the finish line taking the win again in moto two.
I was really happy again, taking the win in both races as I feel
like in the heat rides I
was not the fastest rider out there on the track but I really found speed in the races. What also really helped was Team KTM Racing Malaysia who got my bike all setup and ready for the race.
Thanks again to all my sponsors and everyone who backs and supports
me at
every event, if it was not for you I would not be doing what I am.
I have attach some photos to this email feel free to use.
Hi all
Great update for you this week, I went east across from Penang Island to Gerik which is about 30mins from the Thailand boarder.
The track was next to the main road leading into the town of Gerik
so the turn out of
people that came to see the racing was huge! So big that by the end of the day the people were standing on some parts of the track which was a delay to my final race.
Moto one:
I had the inside gate pick for the left hand first turn, I got a
good jump off the
start line and got around the first turn clean and come out in first place. From there I pushed the first few laps hard to pull away from the Thailand rider that stayed with me as I was making too many mistakes in the corners.
By lap five coming down a hill into a right hand turn I lost speed
and the Thailand
rider which was on a 450 bike was able to gas it into the turn and make the pass on me. I got behind him and started to put pressure on him to go faster into the turns and it worked, about six turns later he came into a right hand turn and he crashed. After he went down I was able to just miss him and his bike and I was then back into the lead to then make a nice lead over the 2nd place rider which gave me the win in moto one.
Moto
two:
Last race
of the day, the heat was high and the track was jam
packed with
people around the whole track. Once again I got another great start but in the first turn I lost some speed coming out and was in 2nd place. I started to get to work on the 1st place rider, but it was very hard as this track was not the best of passing lines. By lap two coming into a right hand turn after the whoops I jumped to the inside and made a clean block pass for the lead.
After I got into the lead the Thailand rider did the same getting
up into 2nd place
behind me. I put my head down and pushed as hard as I could coming into and out of the corners but at the same time trying to keep the bike smooth and straight. I started to pull away and got a good 6-8sec lead over 2nd place, by then it was the final lap and all set to take the final moto win and also the over all on the day.
Great day for me and all my sponsors, the last few weeks of riding
and training
had paid off so I need to keep that up. My next event is coming up on Feb 25th so I am now going to start training for that event. Once again big thanks to Oakley, RedBull, Ossur, CTI, KTM Racing Malaysia, SOL Helmets, Zone5 and Celebrity Fitness for all your support!
Just a
fast update for the start of 2012!
I'm now
riding for KTM Racing, back with my old team and
this weekend I will be
racing in Ipoh, Malaysia. Yesterday I was able to head out to a track close to Penang Island to get setup and ready for the weekend. I was also able to also test out my new Go Pro helmet cam so click on please the link below and you can see my video from riding yesterday.
Hope you
all are having a great start to the year and I will
have an update for you
all after the weekend. Big thanks again to all my sponsors who are still backing me :)
Hi
everyone
Last
weekend I had an event in Tanjung Sauh which is
on the west coast of Malaysia
about 1hr south of Ipoh city. The track was very close to the beach but was not a sand track but was dirt and to make it hard there had been rain for two days before the event so the track was a mud hole but it did not stop the event from still running for all the local people that came out to see the racing.
Moto one:
I had
got a very bad start and was back in 8th but
after two laps I got up into 2nd as
the track was very hard to get around and lots of the riders were crashing.
By lap
four I moved into the lead and had a nice gap
over the 2nd place rider but
that was all to change as I went down in a turn over the back of the track and then had problems trying to start the bike.
When I
got the bike started and was back into the race
I was back in 4th, only half a
lap later I went down hard over the finish line jump trying to push to hard to make up the lost time.
My
hands were covered in mud and there was no way
for me to hold onto the bike,
I took my gloves off as there was no way I could grip the bars. I worked my way back up into 2nd place and finish off there. The bike I rode felt like a ton of mud was on it, I went back to the pits to clean up and get ready for the last race which I would need to win to get the overall win on the day.
Moto two:
I got
another bad start but this time it did not take
me so long to get up into the
lead, once I was in 1st place there was nothing else left to do but to just ride smooth and stay away from any deep mud holes.
After
the 20mins I had two laps left, my final two
laps went smooth and with
no problems taking the win in the race and also getting the over win on the day which was really good.
I am
now in Penang, been doing lots of fitness
training and staying on top of everything.
Next month I have a few events in Thailand and hope there will be some new events coming up in Malaysia.
Thanks
to Planet Marketing for the help over the
weekend and who also sponsored
my a bike to race at the event. Big thanks to all my sponsors also, please see attach photos.
Hi
everyone!
Had a good weekend, I had a race on Saturday the 27th in Selfoss town which is located in the south-western coast of Iceland, 50 km from Reykjavik. The race was more of a fun event to raise money for the Iceland Motocross Team to go to France in September for the Motocross of Nations. Race Day: Moto one: Got the hole shot and was in 1st but by the end of the first lap I must have hit a rock on the track and then the rear tire went flat so after 4 laps I had to end the race and go back to the pits and get ready for the next race. Moto two: Got an okay jump off the start and was in 2nd place, after two laps I went to make a pass into 1st and the lead rider came across my line so I tried to try and miss him or we would both crash. When I went to change my line to not hit each other I caught my front end on a rock/rut and went down, by the time I was up I was dead last. When I got the bike going and joined back into the race I started to catch up and moved my way up into 6th place. I Had a great time even though it was a rough day, starting to pick up some speed on these fast, rough sandy tracks which I'm not so comfortable on. This week I will be doing some riding at a local track and also a one day ride up at Mt Hekla before I fly out on Thursday morning to saudi Arabia. Thanks to all my sponsors: Oakley, Ossur/CTI, Zone5, Celebrity Fitness, SOL Helmets.
Hi
everyone!
Been awhile since I have sent out any updates but I had taken some time off racing but now getting back into it and a good way to kick it off back in Iceland for my third time in three years! The race was the last round of the Iceland motocross championships at a race track called "Bolaalda" (where I placed 2nd in 2010 at the Lex Games) Bolaalda is about 20min drive from the town of Reykjavik. I arrived in Iceland on Aug 15th with not much time to get ready for the racing. I got a bike from a well known rider in Iceland called JoiKef who lent me a 2008 RMz450 Suzuki. Most people know me as always riding a Kawasaki, but with not much time on any bike and not much time to get ready I was happy to just get on any bike and have fun! I spent the first few days riding on the track I will be racing on, so was trying to get setup and in the flow of everything as I'm not use to riding such a fast track with sand and rocks as in Asia all tracks are small, hard packed ground with big jumps. I was starting to get the hang of the track so it was time to get the bike ready for the race and relax as Saturdays racing was coming up in two days. I had a free day before the race so I went with my friend from Iceland who helps me out every time I come over "Atli" to see a glacier. It was lots of fun and a good way to see Iceland as I have never really had much time to check out how great Iceland really is as every time I come I am always riding or racing. Race day: I did not do so well in the lap times which is for your gate pick on the start line. I got the 13th fastest lap time but everyone's lap times were very close. I was having problems finding the fast lines and getting the speed around the turns, the Iceland riders were really flying and I was having problems keeping up and getting the same race lines as what they were taking. Moto one: In the first race I got a great jump out of the gate and shot into the first turn in 1st place but came out in 2nd. For the first lap I stayed up in 2nd but then started to drop back fast as I did not have the lines and speed as the top nine riders, I found myself back in 11th and sat there for the rest of the race fighting the track and the bike. The last few laps I started to get into the flow and found some better lines but by then it was too late and the race was over finding myself to finish in a far back 11th place. Moto two: The last race of the day, I was feeling down after my first moto and felt like I was really having problems with the track as I was not riding how I could and wanted to be up near the top five. I got another good jump off the start and found myself sitting in 5th, I had a really good race banging bars with a few riders. I had better lines but still did not have the speed so I fell back a few places but still felt like I was riding better than the moto one. When the race ended I got a 9th with a 9th overall. My days view: I felt like I was getting better as the day went on, I wish I had more time on the bike to be ready for the racing. Last year I was up in the top three but this year I was just getting into the top ten but I had also forgot that I have not been on the bike for almost 3months and also working is my main focus so I did not feel so bad about my results. I am going to start training allot harder and work on my weak points with corner speed but it is hard with not having these style of tracks in the Asia Pacific. I really would like to say a huge thanks to Iceland Suzuki, JoiKef, Atli and everyone else that had help me out for the racing and my time here in Iceland and I look forward to coming back in 2012! My next event is coming up in a month so this was a good event to get me back into it and to bring some speed into the next event. Big thanks to all my sponsors who support me with my racing around the globe!
Another
update, for my birthday today "May 6th" I have a
great write up in the New
Zealand Herald by "Michael Burgess"
I am still
in Saudi Arabia so it is not much of a fun birthday
:)
Clink the link here below to read it:
Hi
everyone!
Now I'm
over in Saudi Arabia sorry about a late race report
from the weekend and
the reason is I had not much time to get back from Kuala Kangsar, Perak to KLIA Airport to fly here in Saudi Arabia. :)
On May 1st
I raced up in Kuala Kangsar which is 25km north of
Ipoh, Malaysia. The town was small but the racing was big with al |
